At Yubi, we've always believed a good protein bar shouldn't ask you to compromise — not on taste, not on nutrition, and not on your values. That's why we're excited to share that our full range of Yubi bars has been officially certified Halal by the Institute of Islamic Jurisprudence, one of the UK's recognised halal certifying bodies.

It's a small line on a certificate, but for a lot of our customers, it changes everything about whether they can reach for a halal snack bar without a second thought. Here's what the certification actually covers, why we went after it, and what it means for you.

What Halal Certification Actually Means for a Protein Bar

Halal is an Arabic term meaning "permissible," and in a food context it refers to products that comply with Islamic dietary law. That covers far more than just the absence of pork or alcohol. A genuine halal certification looks at the entire journey of a product: the source and nature of every single ingredient, how those ingredients are processed, what equipment they touch, how the facility is cleaned between production runs, and whether there's any risk of cross-contamination with non-halal substances.

Certification isn't self-declared. It's carried out by an independent, third-party authority that audits the recipe, the supply chain, and the manufacturing site itself before issuing a certificate — and that certificate has an expiry date, meaning the business has to be re-audited to keep it. In our case, the certifying body is the Institute of Islamic Jurisprudence, with recertification required every 6 months to keep it active.

What's Covered on Our Halal Certificate

The certification applies to our entire current range, produced at our manufacturing plant in Ormskirk, UK. That includes every bar across our lineup — from Vegan Snack Bars and Vegan Protein Bars, to our Multi-Layered Protein Bars, to the full Yubi range.

In other words: this isn't a single hero product wearing a halal badge for marketing purposes. It's our whole lineup, audited and signed off, bar by bar — a fully halal certified protein bar range, not just one flavour.

Why We Went Through the Halal Certification Process

Plenty of plant-based bars could easily be assumed halal, simply because they contain no pork, gelatin or alcohol. But an assumption isn't the same as a guarantee, especially when it comes to something as personal as a customer's dietary requirements. Without an official certificate from a reliable third party, there's no real way for a buyer to be sure our production line actually meets those requirements.

We didn't want to leave it at that. So we put our recipes, our suppliers and our production facility through the full certification process, and came out the other end with a verifiable, dated certificate — not just a claim printed on the packaging.

Halal isn't a niche market anymore. Shoppers increasingly seek certification as a trust signal, not just a religious requirement. It signifies stricter ingredient traceability and production hygiene. This is particularly important as we expand our presence in the UAE where Halal certification is not only appreciated but expected. Going through the audit process actually sharpened our internal documentation and supplier tracking. This was a positive outcome regardless of whether halal certification was the primary motivation.

Yes — our bars remain fully plant-based, and are now also independently halal certified, so the two sit alongside each other rather than replacing one another.

Is halal certification permanent?

No. We have a 6-month validity period before we re-certify. Like most credible certifications, it requires periodic re-auditing, which keeps the standard meaningful rather than a one-time badge.

Will every future Yubi flavour be certified automatically?

New products will go through the same certification process as our existing range, and we'll keep this page and our packaging updated as that happens.
